Clemson football to be without pair of talented WRs vs. UVA
Clemson football will be looking to improve to 6-1 on Saturday against the University of Virginia, but they will need to do it without two key receivers.
Both Bryant Wesco and Tyler Brown won’t play due to ankle injuries, per Pete Nakos. Wesco also missed the Week 7 game against Wake Forest. He’s one of the Tigers’ top options, reeling in 11 catches for 262 yards and two touchdowns.
Brown, meanwhile, isn’t as big of a loss—well, not this year at least. He has just five receptions. Brown suffered an ankle injury in Week 2 and also didn’t suit up last weekend. The sophomore was a key weapon in 2023 though, compiling 52 catches for 531 yards and four touchdowns.
Quarterback Cade Klubnik will have Antonio Williams and Jake Briningstool available though, who are Clemson football’s top two targets. Williams has 25 receptions, while Briningstool has 24. The Tigers will be hoping to stay unbeaten in ACC play here.
This will be a special game for Swinney, who will face Clemson’s former offensive coordinator in Tony Elliott. He’s now the head coach for Virginia. Elliott offered some praise for Swinney after helping him prepare for a HC job:
“I think he proved you can do things differently, right, then maybe what the status quo is,” Elliott said of Swinney. “His approach is to do it with people, believing in people, believing in the human spirit. Believing that if you find good quality people and you give them an opportunity, they’ll take it, they’ll run with it and, ultimately, everybody will be successful.”
Swinney also knew Elliott had what it took to be a head coach:
“I knew, without a doubt that, first of all, it was a matter of time before I hired him. But, secondly, that he would be a great coach, and a great head coach one day because that’s who he is,” Swinney said. “He’s a natural born leader.”
