CF10 Houston FC Defeats Austin United FC 2-1

By Elizabeth Pazmino Ocampo/CF10 Houston FC
CF10 Houston FC and Austin United FC met Wednesday at the Village School in a vibrant game with several attendees who arrived in time to see a local team completely changed from their first match.

Despite not having their starting goalkeeper and having just a few days to rebound from the recent loss to Laredo Heat SC, the team from the Space City came out to defend their home turf.  CF10’s Hunter Merritt would register the game’s first goal in the ninth minute.  Houston’s attack would continue as CF10 had seven shots on goal in the first half alone.
The visiting team tried to get out of its own side of the field, but the constant pressure led to several missed passes and loss of possession.  However, some players stood out for their power and speed, including Martin Tellez and Erick Rios as they gave Austin greater mobility in the middle of the field.
The teams went to halftime with CF10 Houston FC leading 1-0.  There were no substitutions for the visitors, while CF10 made a couple of adjustments with an eye for closing out the match.

In the 61st minute, a free kick from Daniel Ramirez settled in the goalkeeper’s upper left corner, increasing Houston’s lead to 2-0.  However, Austin’s Ethan Orozco cut that lead in half with a goal of his own in the 82nd minute.
Austin’s Enrrique Alvarez and CF10’s Daniel Castro would both receive red cards four minutes later, leaving the players ineligible for their team’s next match.  Austin’s late surge was just not enough as CF10 Houston FC would emerge with a 2-1 win as the final whistle blew several minutes later.

CF10’s next game will be on the road on Saturday, June 1 against Laredo Heat SC.  Austin Untied FC will face the Heat on May 26.
