Texas was behind only the Georgia Bulldogs. One-hundred sixty-five media members predicted the Bulldogs would win the SEC Championship in 2024. Twenty-seven said Steve Sarkisian‘s program would win back-to-back conference championships, albeit in different leagues. Alabama followed Texas with 12 votes. Ole Miss was next with four selections. Vanderbilt and LSU each had two votes, while South Carolina earned a single pick.
Here was the media’s predicted order of finish, along with the points totals ascribed to each team via the voting.
Georgia – 3330 points
Texas – 3041 points
Alabama – 2891 points
Ole Miss – 2783 points
LSU – 2322 points
Missouri – 2240 points
Tennessee – 2168 points
Oklahoma – 2022 points
Texas A&M – 1684 points
Auburn – 1382 points
Kentucky – 1371 points
Florida – 1146 points
South Carolina – 923 points
Arkansas – 749 points
Mississippi State – 623 points
Vanderbilt – 293 points
According to the league, only nine times in 32 seasons has the predicted champion gone on to win the conference crown.
The SEC has no divisions for the first time since 1991. That means the two participants in the SEC Championship game “will be determined during the eight-game regular-season conference schedule as the teams with the two best overall SEC winning percentages,” per release.
