Having met online on an international dating app, the duo appears to be a fan-favorite couple.
While Netherton is traveling to Durban to meet her fiancé, Sunny Mahdi is not actually from South Africa but was born and raised in Bangladesh. A 26-year-old Muslim man, Mahdi was raised in Bangladesh by his mother as his father moved to South Africa when he was pretty young.

Having a troubled relationship with his father due to their distance, he was eventually called by his father to the African country to work at his store. So, when Mahdi moved to the country seven years ago, he had trouble fitting in initially.
On the other hand, Veah Netherton is from Orlando, Florida, and was raised in foster care, separated from her seven siblings since her parents struggled with addiction issues. Since both Mahdi and Netherton come from broken homes, they connected over their shared trauma since both were able to understand each other in a way that nobody else does (via 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days).
