Gene Hackman's Nephew Breaks Silence Over ‘Negative' Death 'Theories’

Gene Hackman's nephew has issued a blunt response to the rampant cause of death speculation surrounding the actor and his wife, Betsy Arakawa. After the couple was discovered deceased in different parts of their own home, with Arakawa found surrounded by spilled prescription pills near the body of one of their pet dogs, investigators labeled their deaths "suspicious," although they quickly confirmed that foul play was not suspected. Naturally, as they wait for the final report's release, fans continue to guess what may have happened to Hackman and Arakawa—including The French Connection star's middle daughter, Elizabeth Jean Hackman.🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 She spoke out shortly after news broke of her father's passing, suggesting that she and her family believed that a carbon monoxide leak was to blame, though Sheriff Adan Mendoza later confirmed that Hackman and Arakawa had both tested negative for carbon monoxide poisoning.New Mexico Gas Company revealed there was a “minuscule” leak at the home, but it's "not believed to be a factor in the deaths," the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office clarified Tuesday, March 5, per KRQE. Now, the family is "waiting on toxicology" before making any more guesses. "That will tell us everything," Tim Hackman, the nephew, told Us Weekly earlier this week.“It’s hard to theorize" he added, acknowledging the existence of "lots of theories out there." He doesn't "want to speculate" without more solid information, admitting how "easy" it is "to speculate negative theories.”In the meantime, they're trying to "keep it positive," waiting to "know the truth" before they decide how they "will deal with it.”Mendoza noted previously that it could take months for toxicology reports to come back."But we’re hoping it comes sooner than later so we can answer some of these questions and hopefully it’ll help us in our investigation to help determine the matter and cause of death," he added.
