Mama June Shannon just experienced major complications during surgery. The reality star is no stranger to going under, but what procedure did she have, and what exactly went awry? Keep reading for further details and an update on her status.
Mama June Has Major Complications During Surgery
Fans who have followed Mama June know that she has gone under the knife before. She underwent a full body transformation, which included a gastric sleeve, skin removal, and liposuction. Additionally, she got a full mouth of veneers, which had to be replaced a few years later. June dropped a lot of weight, but it crept back up when she was recovering from her addiction. Plus, her daughter, Anna Cardwell’s cancer struggle also took a toll on June so she had sought to get sleeve revision. Unfortunately, her doctor shared that she needed to get healthy before that was possible.

June has since started weight loss medication and has dropped an immense amount of weight. Now, she has undergone surgery, but it came with major complications. June explained that she had been feeling pain for quite some time, even when Anna was alive. Anna tried to get her to go to the doctor so she would not suffer her same fate, but she did not. It was extremely bad around August 2024, so she finally went to see one for female problems but had to go to a few places for reliable answers. When Mama June went to the doctor, they learned she had fibroids on her ovaries and, eventually, her uterus.
The surgery was set for December, but she had insurance issues. It ultimately happened on Friday, April 4th and the surgery was only supposed to take two hours. When all was said and done, it was almost eight hours later. There were major complications, which June will address later, but the doctor could see two points of major pain. June ended up with a total hysterectomy, something she was prepared for. The goal was to keep one fallopian tube, but that became impossible.
Where She Stands Now
After all of the complications and an extremely long surgery, where does Mama June stand now? She knew that it would be a long recovery, but has this changed anything at all? Her husband, Justin Stroud, shared an update after they got to their Airbnb. He went right to where she was recovering, and she noted she had just taken some medication and looked very much out of it. After Justin left her room, he asked what life would be without a few hiccups? He also noted how he was pacing the hospital, given that it was only supposed to be two hours. Fans immediately chimed in with their well wishes:
