I made my own garden planters with 2 old filing cabinets from Facebook – I saved £510 & everyone says they look gorgeous
A WOMAN who got inventive with a pair of filing cabinets was praised for her “fabulous” garden.
Laura Fuller shared in the Gardening on a Budget Facebook Page how she had bought two white filling cabinets to use in her garden as planters and “a little salad plot”.

She wrote: “Two filing cabinets made into planters and a little salad plot.
“[I] put casters on the bottom and drainage holes, painted with Hammerite and 1/3 filled with plastic bottles and cardboard so I didn’t use as much compost, still 7 60ltr bags in each one.”
She continued by saying everything, including the plants, cost her just over £200.
She compared this to an Amazon seller she had seen which she said had a planter up for £300.
The pictures show her three cabinets stood side-by-side on the patio with snaps of sprouting plants from one of the draws.
She quipped: “Just need to print some labels for the salad draws.”
The 36-year-old told Fabulous: “I got both the filing cabinets off Facebook Marketplace for £45 for the two.
“Plants and compost are from a local plant nursery.”
She continued by sharing quite a nifty tip and said she’d used plastic bottles and cardboard boxes so not as much compost was used.
She noted this would help with drainage.
She added her casters and the paint she used were from a DIY shop.
“Altogether both planters cost me £209.
“I found one online from a garden centre for £300!
“I also used the draws from the filing cabinets to make a salad plot to grow, cucumber, radish, beetroot and lettuce.
She said she made the transformation in just a day!
People were quick to comment their praise underneath her post.
One person wrote: “These look great, well done!”
Another penned: “These look fabulous xx”
A third commented: “Love it. I need to find some filing cabinets now [thinking emoji].”
Someone else said: “Brilliant idea [thumbs up emoji].”
It comes after one woman was sick of having a “see-through fence” so she gave her garden a glow-up with items from Home Bargains and B&M.
Whilst another lady transformed her outside space into a Bridgerton paradise – but it was her £10 shower curtain that fans called a “showstopper”.
