Major supermarket slashes price of giant bag of Quality Street to just £1.86

A MAJOR UK supermarket has dropped the price of its mega 750g bags of Quality Street chocolates.
The treats, which were originally £6.99, are scanning at just £1.86 this week.
The Quality Street pouches are now selling in Asda for bargain pricehotukdeals.com
The whopping family-sized refill pack can be found for the reduced price when you shop in Asda stores.
The bags are a popular product at Christmas time as they pack even more chocolates than a regular tub — which usually retails for around £6.
This means you can get more bang for your buck by saving the tub and refilling it with more than the equivalent amount of chocolates from the pouch.
While it usually sells for £6.99 in Asda it can also sell for much higher prices in other stores — being sold for a hefty £14.95 on Ebay.
This makes the discount on the pouch almost 90% off — meaning you could enjoy it for cheap now, or plan ahead and store it in the cupboard for winter.
Bargain hunters are rushing to secure the deal, which follows a range of similar reductions on Quality Street products.
Quality Street is sold all year but is also a beloved festive treat –meaning stores are likely clearing their Christmas stocks to make room for Easter eggs.
In fact, Quality Street Easter Eggs have already sprung on shelves.
The egg has a caramel-flavoured shell studded with chewy fudge and caramel pieces.
Morrisons, Waitrose and Ocado are all selling the egg for £12, which works out at £3.17 per 100g.
However, this was not the cheapest price on the market, with Iceland currently selling it for £10 and Asda taking the cheapest retailer crown with a price of £9.98, or £2.63 per 100g.
It is worth bearing in mind that products such as these will be ramped up in price due to their seasonal popularity.
For this reason, you could save a lot of money hunting for the reduced Christmas chocolate in Asda first.
Eagle-eyed punters spotted a jaw-dropping reduction in Aldi last week, where 300g Quality Street pouches went from £1.99 to just 49p.
That made it just 16p for 100g and the cheapest around.
In comparison, the Asda deal on the 750g pouch costs 25p per 100g.
However both are great deals and its likely the slashed stocks are already selling out — so you’ll have to be quick.
Last week Iceland also dropped the price of its 600g tub from £6 to £3 giving shoppers a 50% discount, despite it being months after Christmas.
Slashing the price of the Quality Street 600g tub made it the cheapest option to buy it out of all the major supermarkets too.
Tesco is selling the box for £6, after its promotion offering it for £3.95 ended, while Ocado was selling the container for £6 but it’s no longer in stock.
The price of a popular Quality Street chocolate was also slashed in price to just 22p in Morrisons.
Zingy Orange Matchmakers, which are also a Christmas classic, usually sell for £1.50, so this offers a saving of £1.28.
If you want to snap up cheap deals like these ones, it can be useful to monitor local Facebook groups to get tips on reductions in your local area.
It also helps to look out for yellow stickers and hunt out the reduction shelves.
You can ask a staff member when you get in-store to direct you as to where this is.
You should still remember to compare prices to make sure you’re getting a fair bargain.
Websites such as Trolley are useful for this — just enter the product you want, and it will show you all the different prices which are currently available from each retailer.
If you want to find your nearest supermarket of choice, go to its website and use the Store Locator tool.
How to save money on chocolate
We all love a bit of chocolate from now and then, but you don't have to break the bank buying your favourite bar.
Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how to cut costs…
Go own brand – if you’re not too fussed about flavour and just want to supplant your chocolate cravings, you’ll save by going for the supermarket’s own brand bars.
Shop around – if you’ve spotted your favourite variety at the supermarket, make sure you check if it’s cheaper elsewhere.
Websites like Trolley.co.uk let you compare prices on products across all the major chains to see if you’re getting the best deal.
Look out for yellow stickers – supermarket staff put yellow, and sometimes orange and red, stickers on to products to show they’ve been reduced.
They usually do this if the product is coming to the end of its best-before date or the packaging is slightly damaged.
Buy bigger bars – most of the time, but not always, chocolate is cheaper per 100g the larger the bar.
So if you’ve got the appetite, and you were going to buy a hefty amount of chocolate anyway, you might as well go bigger.
