She Vanished After Getting Into An Unidentified Man’s Vehicle In 2020, And She’d Reportedly Been Receiving Threatening Messages From Two Men Prior To Her Disappearance
Dawnita Wilkerson, a mother of six from Indiana, has been missing since Father’s Day in 2020.
At the time, the 44-year-old had been staying in Evansville, Indiana, at her brother’s home. Then, on June 21, 2020, Dawnita walked out and told her kids – who were between the ages of 15 and 22 – that she would be right back.
Tragically, Dawnita never returned home and has been missing ever since.
According to Dawnita’s aunt, Julia Womack, it was her 15-year-old twin daughters who first noticed that she was missing.
“She’s always in contact with the twins. But suddenly, they couldn’t reach her. And her phone went dark around 9:00 a.m. on Monday,” Julia recalled.
Additionally, every Monday morning, Dawnita would talk to her mother on the phone. However, the Monday after she left her home, Dawnita never called her mom.
So, once Dawnita’s loved ones realized no one had heard from her, they knew something was wrong and contacted the Evansville Police Department to report her missing.
It was discovered that at 8:16 p.m. on the day she vanished, Dawnita was seen on surveillance footage leaving an East Side motel in Evansville. Later, she could be seen standing beside a man outside the hotel.
Then, Dawnita got into a silver 2004 Chevrolet Suburban that had tinted windows and a sunroof. After this final sighting, Dawnita was never seen or heard from again.

Once Dawnita left the motel in the SUV, investigators determined that the car traveled through Southwest Indiana and drove into Southern Illinois. Her phone last pinged five different spots in and around Carbondale, Illinois. Then, her cell phone was turned off the following morning.
According to Dawnita’s family, she had received some threatening messages from two men leading up to her disappearance. One of the men was an ex-boyfriend who had been arrested four times in 2018 and 2019. The arrests were in connection to domestic violence and battery incidents, and Dawnita had been listed as the victim.
However, the identities of the two men who reportedly threatened Dawnita have not been publicly released, and they haven’t been named as suspects in her case. The exact circumstances surrounding her disappearance also remain unclear, and her case is still unsolved.
So, as the search for Dawnita continues, her family continues holding onto hope and waiting for answers about her disappearance.
“We just want her back. Whoever took her, just bring her back. We have forgiven – but now we just need her back,” Julia said of her niece, who she regards as a funny and strong individual with “a heart of gold.”
“She’s been through a lot, but she’s a survivor. She’s not perfect, but she’s ours, and we just want her home.”
At the time she disappeared, Dawnita was five foot three, weighed 145 pounds, and had black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing blue jean shorts, a red T-shirt, and sandals.
A $5,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to Dawnita’s discovery. If you have any information regarding her case, you are urged to contact the Evansville Police Department at (812) 436-7979.
