The S.W.A.T. series finale airs next month, but one star of the show teased that it might be coming back… again… despite getting canceled. Keep reading for the latest on the popular TV show.
S.W.A.T. Last Airdate Set
S.W.A.T. is one of several CBS shows airing season finales in May. But unlike hit shows Matlock and Elsbeth, S.W.A.T. won’t be returning for another season in the fall.
The show was canceled for a third time last month. It was previously canceled in 2023 and 2024 before CBS resumed production. The two-hour Season 8 finale, which is also the series finale, airs on Friday, May 16.

2 Sports Greats In This Week’s Episode
The show only recently wrapped production. Most of the episodes were filmed before CBS decided to cancel the show again. Shemar Moore has played the lead character, Hondo, since the beginning of the show in 2017.
The former soap star took to Instagram to hype this week’s episode. He couldn’t contain his excitement that two sports greats will appear in the episode airing on Friday, April 4. Shemar Moore shared a photo from filming the episode.
Former NBA player and current sports commentator Kenny Smith is a guest star in this week’s episode. Dallas Cowboys great Jerry Rice is also in the episode.
S.W.A.T. Star Teases Show Coming Back After Cancellation
Fans of the show do not want the police drama to end. A petition created in the hopes of saving S.W.A.T. is nearing 70,000 signatures.
David Lim, who plays Officer Victor Tan, recently appeared on the KTLA 5 Morning News to talk about the show’s cancellation. The actor appeared hopeful as he told the host, “It might not be just over for ‘S.W.A.T.’ just yet.”
He continued, “We believe in the show. We believe in what we’ve built. We’re passionate. We want to continue. We’re actively trying to find a new home for ‘S.W.A.T.’, and there’s been an outpouring of love and support from our fans.”
He mentioned the petition. “Clearly, people are not ready to say goodbye just yet, and neither are we,” he said before adding that the cast is “hanging on” to hope.
Lim also took the time to gush over his cast mates and working on the CBS show. “It’s always been a family on ‘S.W.A.T.’ I think that’s one of the things that makes ‘S.W.A.T.’ so special, is the camaraderie, the family, the team and the fact that everyone has shown up, you know, we feel like the whole world’s got our backs right now, and we’re just feeling every bit of that love,” he said.
The final season has finished filming, but that doesn’t mean CBS can’t change course again and renew S.W.A.T. for Season 9. The show previously finished filming Season 7, which was meant to be its last, before CBS announced it was bringing the show back for Season 8.
Shemar Moore also put out a call on social media for other outlets, including Netflix, NBC, and ABC, to consider saving S.W.A.T. So while it seems like a lost cause at this point, fans shouldn’t give up hope just yet.
