Community on Edge as Oakland Synagogue Faces Potential Hate Crime Vandalism, Police Seek Public's Help
Two acts of vandalism targeting a synagogue have the Oakland community on high alert. The Oakland Police Department (OPD) confirmed they are investigating these incidents as potential hate crimes. The first attack occurred late on June 21, with the second episode following shortly after midnight last Saturday, both at the same location in the 3000 block of Lakeshore Avenue. Perpetrators, still unidentified, were reported to have thrown large objects at the synagogue's windows, causing damage.
These events have sparked an urgent response from local authorities. The OPD's Executive Team, including the Command Staff, has been reported to have met with the synagogue's leadership to address concerns and discuss security measures. According to a statement by the OPD, "Members of OPD’s Executive Team and Command Staff have already met with and will continue to stay in contact with the synagogue’s Rabbi." The Police Department solicits the community's assistance to solve these crimes quickly and decisively.
OPD's Criminal Investigations Division is leading the inquiry and is asking anyone with information regarding the incidents to come forward.
