Katy Perry's Latest Move with Kamala Harris Sparks Fan Doubts About Her True Intentions
It’s no secret that Katy Perry has been having a tough time PR-wise. The “Woman’s World” singer has been under scrutiny since collaborating with Dr. Luke — who was sued by Kesha in 2014 for sexual assault and battery — on her album 143. The video for “Woman’s World” also left even her most devoted fans questioning how she completely missed the mark with the whole “women’s empowerment” angle of it all.
Since then, Perry has been doing everything in her power to course-correct. She followed the footsteps of Taylor Swift in supporting Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential bid. And yesterday, Perry hopped on a zoom call with Harris HQ to pump up staffers and show her support, per TMZ.
While Perry’s newfound political involvement might seem like a step in the right direction, some fans aren’t convinced. “Katy Perry may have come out for Kamala Harris but she talks about how much she loves Elon Musk and she voted for Rick Caruso in Los Angeles for Mayor. She’s definitely both-siding this as well,” noted one fan on social media.
For those unfamiliar, billionaire Rick Caruso ran for Los Angeles mayor in 2022. The real estate developer, who switched from the Republican to the Democratic party right before the election, donated millions to ultra-conservative organizations, including $6 million to the USC Caruso Catholic Center, which has strong anti-abortion (a.k.a anti-women) values.
While Caruso did not win, Perry was called out at the time for posting photos of herself voting for the billionaire developer, captioning a photo of herself with a thumbs up in front of a voting tablet, “I am voting for a myriad of reasons (see the news) but in particular because Los Angeles is a hot mess atm.”

Sure, people can have a change of heart when it comes to politics. But given the timing of Perry’s political pivot, fans are understandably wary that her involvement in the Harris campaign might be more about rehabilitating Perry’s public image than anything else.
