Classic 70s horror film axed from Netflix as Halloween approaches

Netflix is removing Halloween (1978) from the streaming service (Picture: Moviestore/REX/Shutterstock)
Spooky season may just be beginning, but Netflix has puzzlingly made the decision to remove one of the most iconic horror films of all time.
Fans of the classic horror film Halloween (1978) have missed out on watching the iconic slasher on the streaming giant, as it left Netflix UK on October 1.
The removal of John Carpenter’s movie marks a significant loss for horror enthusiasts, especially with Halloween fast approaching. It’s difficult to imagine why Netflix would offload the film now.
Viewers in the UK will need to catch Michael Myers’ terrifying debut elsewhere, along with a string of other hits leaving the service this month.
Halloween remains a touchstone of the slasher genre, with many horror movies attempting to replicate its success following its release.
The film follows teenager Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) on one Halloween night in the Illinois town of Haddonfield.
Little does she know, she’s being stalked by mental patient Michael Myers, who was committed to a sanitarium for murdering his teenage sister one Halloween night during his childhood.

Netflix is clearing out a range of films and TV shows this October, making it the last chance for subscribers to enjoy several popular titles before they’re gone.
Navigating what’s leaving can be tricky, especially as new titles are added to the platform. To make your autumn binging a little easier, we’ve rounded up some of the biggest films and series that are set to exit the UK catalogue this month.
Aside from Halloween, one of the standout films leaving Netflix UK is I See You (2019).
