Huntington St. Patrick's Day Parade: What To Know

HUNTINGTON, NY — The Huntington St. Patrick's Day Parade is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, March 9, the Huntington Hibernians announced."The Ancient Order of Hibernians will once again orchestrate a full display of community pride and Irish hertiage as they are joined by their friends and community partners in marching down Main Street," the Huntington Hibernians stated. This year, New York State Assemblyman Keith Brown will serve as grand marshal, leading the procession through Huntington down New York Avenue on to Main Street before ending at The Church of St. Patrick.Brown will lead a parade filled with pipers, school marching bands, fire departments, and a large assortment of community friends. The parade will mark the culmination of a week-long celebration that begins with the Grand Marshal’s Ball and ends Sunday with the parade and gathering of friends and family at the parade after-party at St. Patrick’s School."The Huntington St. Patrick's Parade is Long Island's oldest and largest and features dozens of pipe bands, including some of the metro area's finest," the Huntington Hibernians wrote. "Few realize the expense of running such a significant event, which includes band sponsorship fees, insurance, and advertising. Some mistakenly believe the Town runs and pays for the parade; it does not. The Huntington Ancient Order of Hibernians has organized and produced all of the costs of this extraordinary parade every year since 1930 (there were no parades during WWII)."The article Huntington St. Patrick's Day Parade: What To Know appeared first on Huntington, NY Patch.
