Idaho Springs block party ‘designed more toward local’

As Idaho Springs becomes more of a tourist destination, local downtown businesses joined together for a local Block Party July 23, inviting residents and local employees to celebrate summer “Miner St. style”.
“It is definitely designed more toward local, with root beer floats for free and free local t-shirts,” Idaho Springs Business Community Promotion Board Director Sadie Schultz said. “But really it’s about making sure locals have a time to connect with their neighbors and know more about the community services that we have available.”
The Mountain Youth Network (MYN) and members of the Idaho Springs Lions Club also set up shop during the downtown event to let locals know what’s available for neighbors.
According to a network’s mission statement: “Mountain Youth Network in Clear Creek County is a true community-based initiative. Our coalition includes individuals from a range of sectors: law enforcement, education, faith community, health and human services, government, youth-serving organizations, students, community organizations, parents, and local businesses.”
A schedule of upcoming events includes paddleboarding and the climbing club can be found at https://mountainyouthnetwork.org/calendar.

In addition to providing local high school students with scholarships and supporting local food banks – including Loaves and Fishes in Idaho Springs – the group also offers KidSight Vision Screening.
“In September, we’ll start our Kids Sight program, we’ll go to all the elementary schools in Clear Creek and do vision screenings of the younger kids. We usually find 10-12% of kids need further evaluation,” Lions Club Robert Storrs said.
The Block Party included a bouncy castle for kids, a downtown water balloon fight and spread the word of Idaho Springs new website: www.visitidahospringsco.com.
