YAY Or NAY: USC Needs To Remain Traditional
USC Trojans football is built on its tradition, her song girls, Traveler, and historic rivalry games. When you take away one of those traditions, you slowly start to kill what separates the professionals from the soon-to-be professionals.
USC and Notre Dame should stop playing their annual rivalry game.
NAY. —
If anyone wants to strip away what’s left of college football’s tradition, go ahead and get in line with the rest of the sheep. And if you’re one of those Trojan fans who want to kill the USC vs Notre Dame series, turn in your Trojan For Life card because you’re turning your back on THE matchup that helped put your favorite team on the map.
Who knows what would have happened to USC’s football program had a couple of head coach’s wives not made their men do what they wanted back in 1926?
I voted for USC to leave the Pac-12 Conference because it was in her best financial interests. For one, having more money makes it easier to be competitive nationally. Secondly, the Pac-12 conference leadership didn’t understand, that they needed USC more than USC needed the rest of the conference. I’ll miss those trips to Pullman and Corvallis, however, the Trojans were their welfare checks and keeping them at the Power 5 level.
I was also among the first to throw up a Fight On when it was announced that the Trojans and Buckeyes were going to be members of the B1G Conference.
Maybe it’s my BCS PTSD. However, I still remember all of the times the Trojans weren’t given the benefit of the doubt despite USC beating teams like Ohio St. 35-3 in 2008.
I’m having a hard time accepting why there are Trojan fans suddenly concerned about playing “Anyone, Anytime, Anywhere” because it makes the schedule too challenging in the 12-team playoff era.–*Huh?!!?*
USC playing Notre Dame on an annual basis does not make things too challenging.
I didn’t hear anyone complaining in 2003 or 2004 when USC had Auburn and Notre Dame out of conference.
Remember the home-and-home series against Arkansas?–“SEC FOOTBALL…CLAP CLAP…CLAP CLAP CLAP” FAN remembers.–And so does Notre Dame. Nebraska remembers what happened, and I can go on.
Someone, please wake me up!
Tell me it was just a bad dream and that folks like Colin Cowherd who claim they love college football, its traditions and rivalries, and USC, want to see USC vs Notre Dame go away.
This is an important recruiting weekend for USC
YAY—
USC is holding Weekend Bash No. 1 with 19 of the best high school athletes scheduled to USC over the weekend.
USC’s 2025 recruiting class has a lot of momentum with most of the celebrating taking place after a couple of unofficial visits. However, this is one of two recruiting weekends where USC spares no cost, and every detail matters.
So far the strategy has worked well. In 2022 and 2023, Lincoln Riley’s staff saw quick returns on the Weekend Bash investments with commitments. However, things have changed since Coach Riley took over. All the credit that was built up after winning 11 games and a Heisman in 2022 was lost when the guys who were excited to be the great Trojan in June 2023 watched USC play defense.
Coach Riley doesn’t need a bunch of commitments after this weekend attempting to secure the No. 1 class like last year. However, it will be important to get at least one verbal commitment from a top defensive player. It doesn’t matter if it’s a defensive lineman, a linebacker, or someone who plays in the secondary to show that D’Anton Lynn’s defense can travel from Westwood to Howard Jones Field.
Following his official visit to USC Julian Lewis will cancel the remainder of his official visit trips.
NAY—
Although it would be super cool if he did. USC’s quarterback of the future Julian Lewis is taking his official visit to USC this weekend and he still has a couple more visits to go.
Julian “Juju” Lewis is locked in with USC“I’m taking these visits just for the experience…but I’ve been locked in with USC for a long time and that’s where I plan to go to college.”@JuJuLewis10 returns to the Coli this weekend for an Official Visit!Fight On! pic.twitter.com/0PcqvvjbYM— Trojan Football fan (@TrojanFBx) June 6, 2024
Lewis said his mind is made up, so why tease the other programs? I understand that he’s enjoying the process and buying himself and his family members cars, and it gives cause for concern.–NIL has a way of getting involved more than it should in some cases.
If Coach Riley can convince Lewis to verbally pledge to call off his last official visits, then USC’s first June recruiting weekend will be a huge success and send a message to the wide receiver recruits who will be on campus this weekend as well.
