Out with the old, and in with the new.
Prince William has instructed his late mother Princess Diana’s divorce lawyers to act on behalf of him and his family in a break with tradition.
The Prince of Wales, 42, has sensationally carved out his own path as heir to the British throne by ditching the royal family’s longtime legal team, the Daily Mail reports.

William’s unprecedented move puts an official end to his working relationship with the legal team at Harbottle & Lewis, who have acted on behalf of the royal family for decades.
Instead, William has hired the team at Mishcon de Reya — one of the UK’s top legal firms.

The prince has enlisted the expertise of the firm’s deputy chairman, Anthony Julius, who served as Diana’s legal representative in her 1996 divorce from Charles.
Diana died in a car crash in Paris alongside her boyfriend, Dodi Fayed, and driver Henri Paul, just one year later. She was 36.
The heir’s move reportedly stung the law firm’s partner, Gerrard Tyrrell, given that he had looked after William and his family for years and is one of the king’s most trusted advisers.

“William wanted to strike out on his own. He did not want to continue using his father’s lawyers. It’s as simple as that. He wants to be his own man,” a source told the outlet.
“William wants to do things differently from his father, and wants to be seen to do them differently.”
Julius also shares a close working relationship with the future king, having served as the VP and one of the founding trustees of the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund until its closure in 2012.
According to the outlet, palace insiders see William’s latest move as a clear signal that he’s looking to pave a path different from that of his father.

“William’s decision to branch out from his father’s legal advisers shows that he is more than willing to shake up the status quo behind palace doors as well,” the source added.
The Post has reached out to Kensington Palace for comment.
The move may come as a surprise to some, given that William’s uncle and Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer, last year hired the same divorce attorney used by King Charles in his divorce from his sister.
