Intel discontinues the Core i9-12900KS and last 14nm desktop CPUs

Intel's 14nm era is about to end. The remaining 14nm desktop CPUs from the blue team, which mostly consist of 10th Gen Core non-K CPUs, will soon be discontinued. Moreover, Intel is also discontinuing the 12th Gen Core flagship processor, the Core i9-12900KS.
Intel's Core i9-12900KS was once the fastest CPU available, packing 16 cores (24 threads) and clocking up to 5.5GHz. This CPU was later outperformed by the i7-13700K, boasting similar specifications with a 5.4GHz clock speed, and the i9-13900K, featuring twice the E-cores (16) and reaching clock speeds of 5.8GHz. A proper successor to the Core i9-12900KS was then launched in the form of the Core i9-13900KS, featuring a 24C/32T configuration and a boost clock speed of 6.0GHz.

With the Core i912900KS now being pretty much obsolete due to the existing 13th and 14th Gen Core series, Intel (via VideoCardz) has announced the beginning of the phase-out process for the i9-12900KS. The processor is still available for order, but new orders will cease to be fulfilled in January 2025, with the CPU set to be formally retired in July 2025.
Aside from the 12900KS, Intel has also announced the beginning of the discontinuation program for the remaining 10th Gen Core series, mostly consisting of non-K entry-level models. The retired SKUs include a wide range, from entry-level Pentium Gold and Celeron SKUs to entry-level workstation processors like the Xeon W-1250. Like the 12900KS, orders will be accepted until January 2025 and fulfilled until July 2025. From then onwards, these processors will be officially discontinued.
KitGuru says: Although the discontinuing program has started, these processors will remain available for the foreseeable future, even after Intel stops accepting orders. So, if, for any reason, you still want to get one of these CPUs, you still have a few months to do so.The post Intel discontinues the Core i9-12900KS and last 14nm desktop CPUs first appeared on KitGuru.
