757Teamz boys volleyball Top 15: Kellam stays on top after sweep of Beach District rival Kempsville
Kellam retains its No. 1 boys volleyball ranking as it easily defeated No. 3 Kempsville 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-13) last Tuesday.
Joel Eanes threw down 19 kills, while fellow Knight co-captain Austin Makovec added 10. Bennett Pyke contributed 43 assists.
First Colonial held down the second spot, sweeping Landstown 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-18) on Tuesday. Bo Sawyer led the Patriot offense with 21 kills. Zia Peterson and Seth Williams added a combined 17 kills and three aces. Senior libero Nate Duff totaled nine digs and Sam Brown passed off 20 assists for the Patriots.
In the Eastern District, the top two teams, Granby and Maury held their positions with 3-0 victories over Norcom and Manor, respectively. The Comets and Commodores were scheduled to clash on Monday, but the match was canceled due to water leakage in the Maury gym.
In the Granby match against Norcom, Cameron Diaz-Cruz and Josh Loo combined for eight kills and Kevin Tristan added three aces as the Comets cruised to a 25-16, 25-6, 25-7 victory.
In the Maury win over Manor, Jonas Stafford and Zach Mendoza had 10 and five aces, respectively.
A third team from the Eastern District enters the polls this week, with Norview (6-2) joining the mix at No. 13. The Pilots have played a straight district schedule, with their only losses coming to Granby and Maury. A 3-1 win over Churchland vaulted the Norview squad into the rankings.
