Family Matters: Top recruits visiting Auburn this weekend, bringing family with them
Auburn, as of Thursday morning, is expecting six recruits to be on campus this weekend for official visits.
The group includes five four-star recruits, four of which are ranked in the top 150, and a three-star offensive line target.
It’s key for the Tigers to get them on campus. However, sometimes it’s just as important, if not more, who each recruit brings with them. Mom usually has a say in where her son chooses. Dad, too. Even grandmas have played a factor.
Here is a rundown of the expected official visitors in Auburn this weekend and who they plan to bring with them on the visit.
4-star ATH/WR Derick Smith, Selma, Ala. (Southside)
Smith is making his first visit to Auburn since committing to Alabama in March. It will be a great opportunity for Auburn to close the gap on the Tide.
Smith’s father and cousin plan to be with him during the visit.
4-star ATH/WR Travis Smith, Atlanta, Ga. (Westlake)
This weekend will be Smith’s third visit to Auburn this calendar year. He previously visited in March and January. In-state Georgia is the presumed leader, but the Tigers will look to change that this weekend.
Smith is bringing with him his mother, father, two sisters and both grandparents.
4-star LB Tyler Lockhart, Winona, Miss. (Secondary School)
Lockhart is returning to Auburn for the first time since committing to the Tigers on May 6. It will be a chance for Auburn to separate itself even more from the pack.
Lockhart plans to bring with him his mother, sister, nephew and friend.
4-star OT Tavaris Dice, Fairburn, Ga. (Langston Hughes)
Dice is making his fifth visit to Auburn this year and second since committing on March 14. It will be a perfect opportunity for the Tigers to solidify him even more before he visits Florida June 14-16.
Dice’s mother, two aunts and his grandmother all will be with him on his Auburn visit.
4-star DL Antonio Coleman, Saraland, Ala.
Coleman returns to Auburn for the second time since flipping his commitment back to Alabama after a three-month commitment to Auburn.
Coleman’s mother, father, two brothers and two sisters all will be with him on the visit.
3-star OL Jacobe Ward, Savannah, Ga. (Benedictine Military)
Ward is visiting Auburn for the second time this year and first since naming the Tigers his leader in March. Auburn would like to extend that lead and cement itself at the top, if not close in on a commitment.
Ward’s mother and father both will be with him on the visit.
