Fast-rising in-state OL lands offers from South Carolina and Clemson on same day
It’s not very often that an in-state prospect lands offers from South Carolina and Clemson on the same day but that was the case Wednesday for Hemingway (S.C.) Carvers Bay class of 2026 offensive lineman Zyon Guiles.
A couple of hours after working out at Clemson’s camp and landing an offer from the Tigers, the 6-foot-5, 280-pounder was riding back home when he learned the news of a Gamecock offer.
“I was very surprised actually,” Guiles told GamecockCentral. “I was in the car taking a nap because we got a pretty long road actually. It’s always good to be able to stay in state, not have to go too far from home, so I was just really excited about that offer from South Carolina.”
Guiles has already visited South Carolina multiple times, most recently for a spring practice, and has started to get a feel for the program.
“It’s not too far from where I live so that’s one big plus for me,” Guiles said. “I like Shane Beamer. Shane Beamer, he has like, how do I say this, he has a side of humor, you know. Not a lot of coaches have that outside of football, but you can joke around with him. You can joke around with (Lonnie) Teasley, joke around with the staff it’s just, it’s really fun. They’re family over there for sure.”
Those early trips have also allowed him the opportunity to start building a relationship with Teasley, the Gamecocks offensive line coach, and recruiting assistant Sam Serbay.
“They can’t really talk to me much because of NCAA rules,” Guiles said. “But yeah, we’ve been building our relationship stronger and stronger every other time they get to talk to me, so that’s good.”
Guiles plans to be back in Columbia on June 21.
He’s also added offers from South Florida, N.C. State, Wake Forest, and Virginia Tech, among others.
Of course, with Guiles adding an offer from both major in-states on the same day, it begs the question of, which one did he grow up pulling for?
“Yeah, this is funny. So back when I was younger, you know you’re going to bandwagon when you’re a little kid. So Clemson was always beating South Carolina, so I just was a Clemson fan. But you know, now I’m getting older, I’m looking more into, you know, not wins, but facilities, programs, and like relationships over there. So you know, that’s still coming along.”
