Deadly, multi-vehicle crash shuts down lanes on IL-53 in northwest suburb
Lanes on a major northwest suburban road remained closed Tuesday afternoon after a deadly, multi-vehicle crash left at least one person killed.
Illinois State Police said the four-vehicle crash happened around 1:40 p.m. on IL-53 northbound, just south of Higgins Road near Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg.
Police said one person was pronounced dead at the scene and details on the conditions of others involved weren’t immediately released.
Little information on what caused the crash was provided as of 2:30 p.m.
Two lanes of traffic remained closed as police continued to investigate, authorities said.
“This incident is ongoing and no further information is available at this time,” police said in a release.
