The people, the academics, the football at USC impress 5-star safety Jonah Williams and his family
The On3 Industry’s No. 1 ranked safety in the 2025 class Jonah Williams took his official visit to USC over the weekend. The Galveston (Texas) Ball five-star and his family left campus very impressed.
“Taylor Mays took us around,” Williams father Billy said. “He was awesome. He was an awesome host. Oh man, very humble, kind. It was natural, so natural. Him and the coaches, the coaches, we expected it, but it was a very genuine.”
From head coach Lincoln Riley to the defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn to the secondary coach Doug Belk to the off-field staff, USC’s coaches made the Williams family feel at home.
“Coach Lincoln Riley I mean he’s so humble,” Williams said. “You can just see they care and the kindness and all of the above. When they talk it’s just natural. That’s what made it so nice.”
Tabbed by the On3 Industry as the nation’s No. 11 prospect regardless of position, Williams is a plus-student that will also play baseball in college.
“I liked the academic part of it,” Billy said. He is a lawyer and a judge. “Ratio one to nine. Small classes. As a matter of fact, you know the professors greeted us at one of the functions. We had breakfast with a lot of the professors at the school. I was enamored they came up and introduced themselves and talked about the curriculum and how they study and what they do. The academics seemed great.”
Billy felt the same way about the coaching staff.
“(Coach Lynn) talk about humble,” he said. “Soft spoken. Very smart. He’s very impressive. Eighty to 90 percent of the coaches we met, they have impressive resumes. The d-line coach, Coach Henny (Eric Henderson). They have someone in player recruiting, Coach (Mike) Williams he was a receiver at USC back in the day. What a story. Coach Lynn was awesome. Coach Belk, they were great.”
The Williams family is still in the process of learning more about USC baseball. They have had dialogue with head caoch Andy Stankiewicz.
“Very good experience with him,” Billy said.
Next up for Williams is his official to Texas A&M this weekend. LSU, Ohio State, Oregon, Oklahoma and Texas round out the other contenders.
Easy to see why they’re all pushing for Williams.
As a junior Williams turned 20 receptions into 474 yards and eight touchdowns with two more rushing scores. On defense he had 58 tackles, four interceptions (three pick sixes), two fumble recoveries (one returned for a score), eight passes defended and a forced fumble. On special teams he returned two kicks for six and two punts for touchdowns.
