Maddox Coasts To Re-Election; District 1 Heads To Runoff

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Incumbent Mayor Walt Maddox easily secured re-election with a win Tuesday in Tuscaloosa's municipal election over Denson Ferrell II.Click here to subscribe to our free daily newsletter and breaking news alerts.Maddox finished in the unofficial totals with 5,727 votes or 87%. The District 1 race on the City Council was the most closely watched and will now go to a runoff between incumbent Matthew Wilson and former Shelton State Community College basketball coach and current SSCC administrator Joe Eatmon. Wilson grabbed 402 votes (38%), while Eatmon received 333 votes (31%) and Que Chandler with 321 votes (30%). The runoff date is set for April 1. In District 2, incumbent Raevan Howard won re-election outright with 51% of the vote against challengers Dennis “Quick” Collins and Ashley R. Wheat, while incumbent John Faile also won a new term outright with 797 votes or 54% in District 6 against Eric Gaines and Lisa M. Young.District 7 Councilor Cassius Lanier won a second term on the council after defeating Oliver “Maurice” Sealey with 668 votes or 70%. District 1 on the Tuscaloosa City Board of Education was the only contested school board seat, which saw incumbent Karen Thompson-Jackson defeat Tony V.
