“Get the Rock Out”: Deion Sanders’ Massive O-Line Move to Shield Shedeur Sanders, Cranks Up NFL Draft Pressure

The ghost that has been haunting the Buffs ever since their debut in Pac-12 is their weak offense. With elite players like the projected No.1 draft Shedeur Sanders and the best college football player Travis Hunter, it might be hard to believe that this was the problem that was making the Buffs weak. However, one has to understand that 2 elite players cannot take a whole team to the cup, and on The Coach JB Show with Big Smitty show, CU alum Matt McChesney said exactly this, “When Shedeur Sanders doesn’t have to do everything, he is going to be able to do anything.”
The July 19th episode of the show brought in some amazing insights from McChesney regarding the Buffs and Deion Sanders’ new strategy. “They’re way bigger than they were. All the offensive linemen were helping out at camp, and I felt small, like, I’m looking up with all these motherf**kers so they are big as shit,” McChesney mentioned. When CU finished last season with a 4-8 score, it was pretty clear that they missed the mark on protecting their key players in the pocket. In an interview with ESPN, it was clear that Deion Sanders had realized his mistakes. “We got to protect that quarterback,” Sanders had said. Shedeur ended up becoming the most sacked QB back in 2023 and this was the push that Coach Prime needed to overhaul the O-line.

The start of the early transfer window saw CU bringing in 6 offensive linemen and also top-ranked offensive lineman recruit Jordan Seaton. This is the perfect step Deion could’ve taken. As McChesney says, “Get the rock out, you give these skilled players a little bit of time and support by running the football and then defensively.” If Deion thinks that Shedeur and Travis or Jimmy Horn Jr would be able to carry the entire team, then he would be dead wrong. These players need the support and the proper moments. With all the recent changes made to the team, CU is finally moving in the correct direction. However, will this be enough to get the Buffs the wins they need?
On the other side
Both Crimson Tides and Bulldogs are also all set for this season. 2 teams leading in offense and defense are sure to make it hard for the Buffs if they end up clashing. Crimson Tide already has the perfect offensive line under Kalen DeBoer’s vision. With Jalen Milroe leading, followed by multiple new hires with solid offense scores, that team is going to be a marvel to watch.
Bulldogs, on the other hand, have the perfect counter to Shedeur Sanders and Buffs, Carson Beck. With a skill level like Eli Manning and the ability to play perfectly from the pocket, Beck is a storm that could easily wipe out the Buffs. Kirby Smart, HC for Bulldogs, is a defense mastermind. Learning from the best, aka Nick Saban, Smart has ensured that his team follows through with the defensive line. This is what awaits the Buffs this season. So will the change to the O-line actually make a difference or will it all go in vain?
