Good Place To Swim: Afghanistan Star's BRUTAL Dig At Greater Noida Stadium Conditions As Rain Spoils Practice
Afghanistan are all set to play a one-off Test Match against New Zealand from September 9 at the Shaheed Vijay Pathik Stadium in Greater Noida. what makes this match interesting is that this will be a 'home' match for Afghanistan due to political situation back home in their country. However, as the team have landed in the city for practice, they faced some big issues due to the poor state of the ground because of the rain.Due to incessant rain in the city, the outfield at the Greater Noida Stadium became soggy and the practice pitch was flooded. The groundsmen were trying to dry the pitch with two table fans. There is no super sopper at the ground, and there are not enough covers to protect the ground beyond the 30-yard circle.Seeing the conditions at the ground, Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahid took a brutal dig, stating that they should have brought their swim gear as it was a nice place to swim. “Boys, we should have brought our swim gear. No way we are going to play here. Good place to swim,” said Shahidi, as quoted by The Indian Express.Turning to the ground staff, the Afghanistan captain joked that they are used to such conditions, but what would they say when the New Zealand team visits the ground. “Sir hum logo ko aadat hai, but New Zealand waalon ko kya jawaab doge (We have trained in much poorer conditions, but what would you say to the New Zealand team management," the Afghan captain added. This will be the first Test match that will take place in the stadium in Greater Noida. The stadium had earlier hosted five ODIs and three T20Is between Afghanistan and Ireland back in 2017.Earlier in July, the BCCI had given an NOC to the Afghanistan Cricket Board to host their home matches in India after a gap of four years. Afghanistan was initially scheduled to host Bangladesh in a full-fledged series against Bangladesh, that would include three Tests and a few white-ball games. However, due to the excessive heat wave in North India during this time, the series was postponed.
