Cade Klubnik opens up on Nick Foles’ impact on him
As the 2024 season fast approaches, Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik is doing everything he can to prepare himself for success as the starter. He’s had a somewhat bumpy ride so far.
But one person he can turn to for advice might have just become a little more available: Nick Foles.
The former Super Bowl winning quarterback with the Philadelphia Eagles recently announced his retirement, doing so with the franchise he won a Lombardi Trophy with. Klubnik poked fun at Foles, who attended the same high school he did, in a post-practice interview on Tuesday.
“Nick’s awesome, man. I mean one of the best dudes that I know in terms of just being a dude,” Cade Klubnik said. “But I thought he retired a few years ago, to be honest. Nah, I’m just kidding. He would probably laugh if I said that.”
Foles had a long NFL career, one that took him to six different NFL franchises. Philadelphia was his first stop and the stop where he won the Super Bowl, though.
Cade Klubnik got a kick out of him calling it a day with the green and white on.
“It was cool to see him retire with the Eagles,” Klubnik said. “That was really sweet. He helped me throughout the whole high school recruiting process and all of high school, my high school career, and when I got here. Coming to a college program, called him a couple weeks ago, just said, ‘Hey, you got any tips on how to use a headset?’ And just stuff like that.”
More than anything, having a player to lean on who has been through as much as Foles is invaluable to Cade Klubnik.
After all, Foles threw for more than 14,000 yards with 82 touchdowns during his 11-year NFL career. There’s a lot to want to emulate.
“When you have a guy like that who’s played the position that I play at the highest level you can possibly play and win on the biggest stage in the world, just really thankful to have a mentor like that that has kind of stood in the fire like I have,” Cade Klubnik said.
