While season two of Jujutsu Kaisen left anime fans desperate to see what comes next, manga readers are gearing themselves up for what could be the dramatic conclusion of the story. However, we’ll have a slightly longer wait than we expected as Gege Akutami’s current hiatus has been extended by at least a week.
Originally, the Jujutsu Kaisen manga was going to be on hiatus for the last two weeks in June and would return on July 1. However, Weekly Shonen Jump has confirmed that the manga now won’t be returning until July 8 as Gege Akutami continues to grapple with poor health and a “strange condition” that is preventing him from working. The announcement did come with some good news as Akutami does appear to be recovering, but, after meeting with his staff and editors, he isn’t yet in a state to return to work.
It is good to see Shueisha allowing Gege Akutami to fully recover from whatever strange illness he has been dealing with, even if we’re desperate to know what happens next in Jujutsu Kaisen. Akutami announced late last year that he might finish the manga’s storyline by the end of 2024, though with the current hiatus being extended that soft deadline is more likely to be pushed back as well.
