The more astonishing fact is that he admitted this by himself and was not hiding anything from his past. He won the UFC 10 and 11 tournaments and is one of the most respected athletes in the MMA world.

‘The Hammer’ recently posted a throwback photo of himself becoming the undisputed UFC Heavyweight Champion. He wrote a long caption to the post reminiscing the past and the whole journey in MMA. He said, “Never give up. On this night I’d be the beast to become the undisputed first ever UFC heavyweight champion of the world. my life was always to be the best in the world. It’s something I came close and Wrestling where I took second this was the first time I was ever called a world champion..” However, the most astonishing thing was not written in the caption but was in the reply he sent to a netizen’s comment.

A person by the username Defreitas_Matthew asked, “Were you on gear back then?’ and he answered with a simple, “@defreitas_matthew yes.” He has admitted to being on performance-enhancing dru*s while competing at UFC and even winning the belt. However, this was not such a big deal because in earlier days especially during the 90s athletes in MMA and UFC used steroids. Nowadays the rules have changed and any undetectable substances or even banned substances in vitamins are not allowed. if any athlete tests positive for those substances they are suspended as happened with Ryan Garcia due to Ostarine intake.
Going back to the hammer, he might have achieved greatness in the UFC world but he did have a few years of battle outside of it against drugs and alcohol. He has previously opened up about his troubles and speaks honestly about his experiences to help other people.

While speaking about his addiction he said, “I am a former alcoholic and drug addict 2 1/2 yrs ago I quit but for two years Something was missing.” He also added that he had not exercised in 12 years and staying away from d**gs and alcohol proved to be very difficult. He also claimed to have used intense training as a way of dealing with the withdrawal symptoms. He has since become a hero and a lifesaver as he saved his parents from a huge fire at their house and was hospitalized for a long time with dangerous burn injuries. After almost facing death he posted on Instagram, “I’m blessed and grateful my parents and I are walking out of this alive. I encourage you to do the things you want to do, better yourself, and cherish every moment. Tomorrow is not promised,”
He has previously also talked about his addiction and said, “I’ve traded my addiction to drugs and alcohol for exercise. I thought maybe I overdid it yesterday the pain is real but real good. I didn’t sleep I couldn’t sleep I haven’t slept and I don’t think I overdid it.” He posted about this on Instagram and said that so far everything was good and it keeps getting better. Just like the Liver King he also believes in the core carnivore diet of the 9 ancestors. he has come out of addiction, braved his way saved his family through a fire, and even came out of ventilation. Coleman is truly a hero in the eyes of fans and his family now.
