1 Killed In Townhouse Fire In West Village: FDNY

WEST VILLAGE, NY — The top floor of a West Village townhouse caught on fire on Wednesday morning, killing one resident in the smoky blaze, the New York City Fire Department said. According to the FDNY, the fire broke out at 7:20 a.m. on the top floor of the five-story townhouse at 142 Waverly Place, between Sixth Avenue and Grove Street in the West Village. Around 60 firefighters and medics responded to the emergency and put the fire out by 8:32 a.m. authorities said.When medics arrived on the scene, they found one resident already dead, the FDNY said.The cause and origin of the fire under investigation by fire marshals, the FDNY said.This is a developing story and may be updated.
