Tiger Woods Stands Tall Against Collin Montgmorie’s ‘Retire’ Call Yet Again Despite Other Legends’ Succumbing to Injuries at the Open

The goat is never one step behind when it comes to proving people wrong! After several poor performances and injuries, Tiger Woods tried to make a good comeback in the Open Championship but failed. The tournament started on July 18, and Woods thought that he still had winning potential. And, after the first two rounds at the Royal Troon, the inevitable happened!
The 82-time PGA Tour winner shot 8 over 71 in the first round, and then in the second round, he made 6 over par, totaling his score to 14 over par. The cutline prediction as of now is +5. This means that the golfer has missed the cut for the third consecutive major this season. He failed to make it to the weekend at the PGA Championship and the U.S. Open. But despite fans predicting that Woods would withdraw after round one or two, he did not. He showed resilience, stood his ground, and played as much as he could! While some couldn’t.
In a surprising turn of events, former champions John Daly and Ernie Els withdrew from the Open Championship at Royal Troon before completing their second rounds. In the first round, both golfers shot 11 over 82. The R&A confirmed that injuries have forced both golfers to withdraw. Daly shared a few scary knee visuals too after his WD, while Els is said to be struggling with knee issues too.

The 48-year-old has been injury-ridden for years now. His legs and back have been the most problematic areas, and things only aggravated when he met with a near-fatal car crash in 2021. People had their inhibitions this year too about Woods’s health, but he has been proving everyone wrong and is showing signs of improvement. Woods fared well on the greens and fought his painful demons. Woods’s resilience to stay in the game definitely proved Scottish golfer Colin Montgomerie wrong.
Tiger Woods is set on proving Colin Montgomerie wrong
The eight-time European Tour winner, Colin Montgomerie, recently stirred up controversy by suggesting that Tiger Woods is not the golfer fans used to love anymore. He reflected on Woods’s previous performance at the U.S. Open, where he had missed the cut. In an interview with The Times, Montgomerie said something that made the golf legend step in. “There is a time for all sportsmen to say goodbye, but it’s very difficult to tell Tiger it’s time to go.”.
According to Montgomerie, Woods has lost his love for the sport and doesn’t seem to enjoy it like he used to; however, the GOAT feels otherwise. Not only did Woods give a straightforward reply by saying, “I’ll play as long as I can play, and I feel like I can still win the event,” but he also proved it! Despite having many physical challenges, everyone’s favorite golfer can never turn his back on the sport unless he really needs to.
The 15-time major winner will now play in the Hero World Challenge, an event he proudly hosts. It will start in December. Are you already waiting for Woods’s next start?
