SWAT Spoilers: Shemar Moore Says His Last Goodbye

SWAT Spoilers: Shemar Moore Says His Last GoodbyeSWAT spoilers and updates reveal CBS’s police drama S.W.A.T. carved out a unique place in television history; the series faced cancellation not once, but twice, only to be revived each time. Despite Shemar Moore’s passionate attempts to revive it for a third time, CBS has decided against bringing the show back-the actor took to social media to express a touching farewell.
The Show Was Cancelled The Third Time
In May 2023, Shemar Moore, the cast, and fans of S.W.A.T. were taken aback when CBS announced the cancellation of the beloved series after six successful seasons.
The show consistently dominated Friday night ratings, making the decision to cancel it all the more surprising. Inspired by Shemar Moore, the show’s lead, fans united in their support, prompting CBS to reconsider.
As a result, the series was renewed for a shortened seventh season, which was intended to be its final chapter. In this season, two key characters—Dominique Luca, played by Kenny Johnson, and Jim Street, portrayed by Alex Russell—departed from the Los Angeles S.W.A.T. team.
Cancelled, Renewed, And Cancelled Again
In April 2024, CBS made another shift in direction by renewing S.W.A.T. for an additional season, despite earlier intentions to conclude with Season 7.
Neither Kenny Johnson nor Alex Russell returned as regulars for this season; the introduction of new characters was met with mixed reactions from fans.
Rochelle Aytes, who portrayed Hondo’s wife, Nichelle Carmichael, made a comeback as a recurring character after being cast in the CBS series Watson.
Earlier this month, CBS announced the cancellation of S.W.A.T. for the third and final time; the show is on a mid-season break but returns with new episodes on Friday, April 4. According to Deadline, the two-hour season finale will air on CBS on Friday, May 16.
Shemar’s Final Goodbye
Shemar Moore has consistently fought to keep S.W.A.T. alive each time CBS decided to cancel it; the former soap opera star urged his fans to express their desire for more seasons.
This strategy worked twice before, but it hasn’t been successful after the show’s third cancellation, at least not yet. While he remains hopeful that the series will find a new platform, the cast and crew have completed filming the final season.
Shemar Moore took to Instagram to share a moment from the wrap day of Season 8; he posted a selfie with the current S.W.A.T. cast, saying, “Wrap day with my squad!!!! My brothers and sisters… 8 years with the OG’s… not long enough with the Young Guns; I love all of you.”
Fans Beg For The Show Not To Be Cancelled
Shemar Moore is not ready to part ways with S.W.A.T., and neither are its fans. Many took to the comments to express their desire for CBS to renew the series or for it to find a new home on another network.
“I really don’t want to say farewell. I adore SWAT so much. You’ve given us a family. The fight isn’t over; let’s keep making some noise.” “I’m hoping we can turn things around! Praying for season 9!!!” “Eight seasons just isn’t enough for SWAT! It’s an amazing show with talented actors, great direction, and production, plus it strikes a perfect balance. We need more!”
