New Hinsdale Paddle Tennis Courts On Way

HINSDALE, IL – The project to add two paddle tennis courts to Hinsdale's Katherine Legge Memorial Park is expected to start this spring. The Hinsdale Platform Tennis Association plans to build two courts, in addition to its six current ones at the park. The group said the sport is becoming increasingly popular. At Tuesday's Hinsdale Village Board meeting, trustees reviewed a proposed agreement with the association on the two new courts at the village park. The trustees, who are set to vote on the pact later this month, had no objections to it. The association's Kevin Parks asked village officials to waive the group's building permit fee. In response, Village President Tom Cauley said Hinsdale could waive the part related to the village's in-house costs because of the project's community benefit. But the village would have to charge for the part involving out-of-pocket payments to third parties, he said.Parks agreed."That's our understanding as well," he said. With new technology, the planned courts will have lighting that is more efficient than the existing equipment and produces less glare, according to the association. The group also has two paddle tennis courts at Burns Field Park in Hinsdale.
