The whole nation is now looking towards what would be the fate of Vinesh Phogat after she had challenged the decision of disqualifying her from the Paris Olympics 2024 in the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The 29-year-old wrestler had appealed for awarding her a joint silver medal as she had already qualified for the final. The hearing took place on August 9, and a decision was expected to be taken by the end of the Paris Olympics 2024. Now, the CAS ad-hoc division President has decided to extend the time limit to 6 PM local time, which means we can expect a decision by 09.30 PM IST on August 10 (Saturday)."By application of Article 18 of the CAS Arbitration Rules for the Olympic Games, the President of the CAS Ad Hoc Division extends the time-limit for the Panel to give a decision until 10 August 2024 at 18h00 (Paris time)," a statement from the CAS read.The CAS on August 8, accepted Viesh Phogat's plea, and asked her to appoint a lawyer to represent her. The Government of India has appointed former Solicitor General Harish Salve to represent Vinesh in the case. Vinesh Phogat had performed exceptionally at the Paris Olympics 2024. She registered the upset of the season when she defeated reigning Olympic gold medallist Yui Susaki in the Round of 16. In the quarter-final and semi-final she registered big wins against Oksana Livach and Yusneylys Guzman respectively. She became the first Indian female wrestler to qualify for the final of an Olympics, and had even assured a fourth medal for India. However, on the morning of her final bout, she was disqualified as she was found 100g overweight in the official second weigh-in.
