My Happy Marriage Visual Imagines Alternate Past for Miyo and Kiyoka

What if My Happy Marriage‘s Miyo Saimori and Kiyoka Kudo got to know each other normally as kids, instead of being thrust into each other’s lives via political marriage? That’s the scenario that this new official visual is envisioning, with a young Miyo and Kiyoka happily walking together under the shade of sakura trees.
If you’re wondering what the inspiration for this visual is, May 5 is “Kodomo no Hi” — Children’s Day — in Japan.

The My Happy Marriage anime is based on the KADOKAWA-published fantasy romance light novels written by Akumi Agitogi and illustrated by Tsukiho Tsukioka. The first season premiered on July 5, 2023 and was streamed internationally by Netflix. Season 2 was announced last September.
Yen Press describes the books’ premise as:
IS THIS MARRIAGE A BLESSING? OR A CURSE?
Born talentless to a noble family famous for their supernatural abilities, Miyo Saimori is forced into an existence of servitude by her abusive stepmother. When Miyo finally comes of marriageable age, though, her hopes of being whisked away to a better life crumble after she discovers her fiancé’s identity: Kiyoka Kudou, a commander apparently so cold and cruel that his previous would-be brides all fled within three days of their engagements. With no home to return to, Miyo resigns herself to her fate—and soon finds that her pale and beautiful husband-to-be is anything but the monster she expected. As they slowly open their hearts to each other, both realize the other may be their chance at finding true love and happiness.
The light novels, which are published under the Fujimi L Bunko label and have nine volumes as of March 2024, have also inspired a Square Enix-published manga adaptation, a live-action movie, and a stage reading. My Happy Marriage was originally a Shousetsuka ni Narou web novel.
