Help Firefighters 'Fill The Boot' For Burn Institute In San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA — Hundreds of firefighters on Wednesday will be at intersections across San Diego County to help raise money for the Burn Institute.Firefighters from more than 30 departments will hit the streets with their boots to collect donations during the morning and afternoon commutes for the 26th annual Firefighter Boot Drive. "Our fire departments are committed to the Boot Drive to ensure we can continue to support burn victims and provide education to prevent future trauma," said Peter Callstrom, executive director of the Burn Institute. Donations will support the San Diego-based organization's fire and burn prevention education programs and burn survivor support services such as Camp Beyond the Scars for burn-injured children. Other services include Safe Seniors, which provides free smoke and carbon monoxidealarms to seniors, and Fire Safe Kids, an in-school education program. The Burn Institute's annual Firefighter Boot Drive is the organization's largest one-day fundraiser. All funds raised will stay locally in San Diego County, according to the Burn Institute.
