“To revisit some of the games and modernize them”: Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot Confirms What We All Knew Already About Assassin’s Creed
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has pretty much confirmed that the company is working on remakes of the older, classic Assassin’s Creed games. This announcement aligns with long-standing rumors as well as fans’ desires to see older titles remade with modern technology.
As part of an interview, Guillemot discussed the future of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, as well as the future of Ubisoft’s game portfolio, and the company’s approach to innovation and change.

In the interview published on the Ubisoft website, Guillemot hinted that the company is planning to revisit some of the older Assassin’s Creed games. This isn’t entirely surprising, given the previous reports that a remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was in early development.

Additionally, there has been speculation and rumors about a possible remake of the original Assassin’s Creed game for some time now as well. These remakes aim to bring the rich worlds and design of the classic games to life with updated graphics and gameplay mechanics, rebuilt in the latest iteration of the engine.

Guillemot emphasized the importance of modernization, stating that the older games still hold a lot of value and potential for new experiences. The goal is not just to enhance the visuals but also to integrate new technologies that can enrich the gameplay. This approach is part of Ubisoft’s broader strategy to keep their franchises fresh and engaging for both new and returning players. Remakes for both the original Splinter Cell as well as Prince of Persia: Sands of Time are also upcoming.
This strategy makes sense, as fans have been wanting the series to go back to its older roots, which focused more on characters and world-building.
The recent release of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, a smaller game paying homage to the series’ roots, contrasts with the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which offers a much larger, more expansive world, similar to the other recent games like Odyssey and Valhalla. This variety is intentional and reflects the company’s commitment to providing different types of experiences within the same franchise, so as to please all types of fans.

According to Guillemot, the future of Assassin’s Creed will continue to see a mix of smaller, more focused games alongside larger, more open-world experiences. He mentioned that upcoming titles like Assassin’s Creed Hexe for mobile devices will offer something entirely different from what players have seen before.

Guillemot is especially excited about the potential uses of AI and other technological advancements in their games. He believes these technologies can make NPCs more intelligent and interactive, creating even more immersive and dynamic game worlds.
For example, in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the weather system will play a significant role in gameplay, with changes like freezing ponds altering the player’s environment and strategies.
The publisher’s commitment to listening to its community and evolving its games based on player feedback is a cornerstone of its current strategy. Guillemot pointed to the success of games like Rainbow Six Siege, where community feedback has played a crucial role in the game’s ongoing development and popularity. This community-driven approach will continue to be important for future Assassin’s Creed games and other Ubisoft titles.
