Chesapeake native Quincy Wilson sets another 400-meter record

TRACK AND FIELD
Quincy Wilson, a 16-year-old who grew up in Chesapeake and attends Bullis School in Maryland, set a 400-meter under-18 world record for the third time this year, finishing in 44.20 seconds Friday night at the Holloway Pro Classic in Gainesville, Florida.
Fellow Olympian Bryce Deadmon was the runner-up in 44.23.

Pilots surge late, end Martinsville’s 10-game winning streak
Facing a team with a 10-game winning streak and a five-run lead, the Peninsula Pilots scored six runs in the eighth inning Friday night to upend the host Martinsville Mustangs 12-11.
The East Division-leading Pilots (30-11, 14-3 in the Coastal Plain League season’s second half) have won 15 of their last 18 games. The Mustangs (27-13, 12-4) lead the West Division’s second half and need to win it to join the Pilots and Forest City, the West first-half winner, in the playoffs.
Carlos Pena was 2 for 5 with two runs and three RBIs, Grayson Fitzwater was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Ryan Dooley was 2 for 4 with three RBIs and a run, Aaron Manias was 1 for 2 with three walks, two runs and an RBI, Cole Stanford drove in two runs and Kyle Edwards scored two for the Pilots.
Peninsula’s first three pitchers struggled, walking an eye-popping 13 batters and giving up 10 earned runs in 5 2/3 innings, but Gardner Meeks, Nate Varnier and Dalton Barham walked none in 3 1/3 shutout innings to finish the game.
With two runners aboard, Barham induced a double-play grounder by Brady Birchmeier to end the game.
Hayden Friese led the Mustangs, knocking in four runs. William & Mary’s Lucas Carmichael was 3 for 5 with two runs and two RBIs.
The Pilots and Mustangs will stage a rematch at 7 p.m. Saturday at War Memorial Stadium in Hampton.
