King Charles confirms North America trip in wake of Prince Harry’s bombshell comments

By Nika Shakhnazarova

King Charles has his sights set on North America.

The monarch, 76, and his wife, Queen Camilla, have announced that they will be traveling to Canada next week for an official state visit.

But even though the king is heading to the same continent that his estranged son, Prince Harry, calls home, it seems as though a royal reunion is not penciled in at this time.

Earlier this month, the Duke of Sussex vented to the BBC about his fractured family dynamics, saying his father “won’t speak” to him.

While there’s been no response about the claim from Buckingham Palace, the fact that the king and his son aren’t planning on meeting up suggests the rift between them remains unresolved.

Charles and Camilla, 77, will be jetting off to Ottawa, the capital of Canada, on May 26 — and the trip there will mark his first since ascending to the throne.

But that doesn’t mean it will be their first time in the country. Charles has visited Canada an impressive 19 times, while Camilla has made the trip on five occasions.

Whilst there, the royal duo will meet with Governor General Mary Simon and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

The trip will also be extra special for the queen, who is expected to be sworn in as a member of the Canadian Privy Council.

The king, whose first official visit to Canada took place in 1970, was last in The Great White North in 2022 when he and Camilla traveled over 3,300 miles to celebrate the late Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee.

In anticipation of the trip, Charles and Camilla stopped by Canada House in central London on Tuesday where they were gifted with the key to the building.

In a video shared on the royal family’s official X account, the royal couple posed for pictures with the many fans who lined the streets in hopes of catching a glimpse of the king and queen.

The trip will come just weeks after Harry sat down for a bombshell interview with BBC News hours after he lost his appeal for taxpayer-funded UK security.

“I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore,” the duke, 40, said in the interview.

The Sussexes have been embroiled in a family rift ever since they quit royal life and moved to the US in 2020.

“Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has,” he added, referencing his estranged father’s cancer diagnosis.

“He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile.”
