VA Admin Center In Philly Among Federal Buildngs That Could Be Sold

PHILADELPHIA — As the Trump Administration seeks to eliminate "waste" in the federal government, it is looking to offload many properties it has deemed "not core to government operations."And amid its push for austerity, several federal buildings in Philadelphia could be sold.According to the U.S. General Services Administration, four properties in the city have been listed as "non-core."They are the Veterans Affairs Philadelphia Regional Office, 5000 Wissahickon Ave.; the United States Custom House, 200 Chestnut St.; and the Mid-Atlantic Social Security Center, 300 Spring Garden St.A fourth property was also listed as "FEDERAL BUILDING 05," but the square footage was listed as zero feet. According to JackPhillyRE’s Substack, this property is part of the Veterans Affairs Philadelphia Regional Office."We are identifying buildings and facilities that are not core to government operations, or non-core properties for disposal." the website reads. "Selling ensures that taxpayer dollars are no longer spent on vacant or underutilized federal spaces. Disposing of these assets helps eliminate costly maintenance and allows us to reinvest in high-quality work environments that support agency missions."These properties are among 12 in Pennsylvania that have been deemed non-core, according to the U.S. General Services Administration website.Others are in Pittsburgh, Erie, Hazelton, Chambersburg, Wilkes-Barre, and Greensurg.The website lists a total of 320 properties that are non-core.
