CU Buffs Alum Pushes for Travis Hunter’s ‘Smart Draft’ After Deion Sanders Declares Him Better Than Young Prime

Back on August 10th, when Dewey Smith said “Destruction is going to be released on college football,” he was not exaggerating. The 2024 season is turning up to become the year of redemption for Coach Prime and his boys. With the team now seeing massive changes on the O-line and the addition of Patt Shurmur, the defense is also looking great. However, we gotta keep in mind one thing. Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter will become key players this year. And now on Zero 2 Sixty show, we find our well-known CU alum talking about how Hunter is going to be one of the massive pillars that will take the Buffs to new heights.
CU alum Matt McChesney on August 13th talks about Travis Hunter and his skills and how the kid is going to be a solid draft pick. “Travis Hunter is the best player in the world. I really, really pray to God that he gets drafted by somebody that’s young and smart,” McChesney mentioned. While 2023 started strong for Hunter and the Buffs, with Hunter catching 11 balls while also making a solid 152 snaps during the season opening, the team’s run still ended with a disappointing 4-8. However, Hunter had already left quite the impression. Back on NFL analyst Daniel Jeremiah’s scouting report, Jeremiah himself agreed that “a star was born.” The kid is explosive on both sides of the ball and his being good, as both WR and cornerback adds a lot to his overall skill level. Hell, he is is so good that even Coach Prime had to say “Better than me”.

McChesney went on to explain that Hunter could easily end up being a Heisman winner this year. However, there are certain points he still gotta figure out. As Jeremiah mentioned in his report, “There is more work to be done on the defensive side of the ball.” Hunter excels when the ball is in his hands, but he still gotta play around with his strength to avoid getting knocked out of the routes. This year we are definitely going to see a bigger and stronger Travis Hunter on the field, though. Uncle Neely had mentioned on the Pregame Show that Travis has gained considerable weight. “He’s faster, leaner-looking, but bigger-looking,” Neely had said. However, another massive question that arises from this entire scene is which team could Hunter possibly land in?
A new home?
McChesney had mentioned that he wished someone young would grab Hunter. The perfect name to fit the bill would be Antonio Pierce, HC, for the Raiders. Now we all know that Deion and Pierce share a good relationship. Back during the Media Days, Coach Prime even defended and praised Pierce and even went far as to say that “it’s not a mistake my sons would like to play for him.” However, Jordan Reid from ESPN had a different idea.
Reid mentioned that Hunter would be the perfect fit for the Seahawks. The Seahawks have Riq Woolen and Devon Witherspoon as solid WRs on the team, and adding Hunter to the list would give them the perfect cornerback. Another wild card entry could be the Jets. Daniel Jeremiah had mentioned that Hunter reminds him a lot of Garrett Wilson. Hunter’s movement and run-after-catch is the same as Wilson’s, who is also considered as one of the top NFL wideouts. Regardless, we still gotta wait and watch where this year takes us and Travis Hunter.
