Kroger shopper ‘feels like criminal’ after being stopped in tracks by cart feature despite ‘paying for everything’

A KROGER shopper has threatened to boycott the grocery store giant and turn to other retailers after an in-store experience that apparently made him feel like a criminal.
The customer was bewildered when his cart suddenly locked despite paying for all of his items.

And, JJ lashed out at the retailer in an X thread.
He revealed that he never noticed the locks Kroger had added to the carts until his buggy came to a halt.
“Horrible experience,” he said.
“Thanks for making your customers feel like criminals.”
JJ was furious with Kroger bosses and revealed where he would do his shopping.
“I think I’ll do all of my shopping at Costco from now on,” he said.
JJ is not the only customer who has had less-than-ideal experiences with Kroger’s locking technology.
“Please tell me when store security started checking receipts and locking carts?” another shopper said.
“As a loyal, cash paying customer for years, I’m highly offended.”
Some shoppers have even claimed that they were injured after their cart suddenly jolted.
“Your antitheft device caused my to be hit in the stomach so hard I almost threw up on the groceries,” a woman, known only as Nanci, claimed.
Locking technology is used by retailers to stop customers leaving with shopping carts.
A Loblaws customer, known only as Rebecca, was left furious after her cart unexpectedly came to a halt.
She claimed her baby suffered whiplash as a result.
Anti-theft measures rolled out by retailers
Retailers across the US and Canada have rolled out strategies designed to combat theft. The U.S. Sun has compiled a list of measures that have been implemented at stores.

“Shocked, I looked down, tried to move the cart, checked the wheels—nothing was working,” she posted on Reddit.
“Meanwhile, alarms were blaring, and I was visibly confused.”
Rebecca revealed another shopper assisted her, transferring a 14kg bag of dog food to another cart.
The shopper explained that the immobilized cart was left abandoned by the store exit.
Dave Bauer, of Loblaws, defended the retailer’s use of the technology.
“Over the past few years, we’ve introduced a number of different technologies to help mitigate this risk, including smart-wheel technology in carts,” he told Yahoo Canada.
The technology is just one example of an anti-theft measure retail bosses have deployed.
Retailers and wholesalers carry out receipt checks to ensure goods have been accurately processed.
Store bosses have also put items in cabinets to crack down on theft.
