ALABAMA
HUNTSVILLE — His Way, an alcohol and drug addiction recovery ministry that started here in 2007, has helped 535 graduates and led to 250 baptisms.
The six-month program, supported by the Central, Mayfair and Twickenham Churches of Christ, provides both practical recovery strategies through counseling, job training and life skills development as well as spiritual growth strategies through Bible studies, worship services and discipleship training.
A His Way ministry participant celebrates his baptism.
In 2020, His Way opened a sister program in Atlanta, supported by the East Cobb, Gwinnett, Snellville and Grace Chapel congregations.
About half of participants graduate from the program, with half of those graduates remaining sober. Nationally, 40-60 percent of those treated for substance use disorders relapse, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
Graduates can choose to remain at the Huntsville or Atlanta campus beyond six months for further spiritual growth. They often speak of the profound personal transformations they have experienced, attributing their success to the Christ-centered approach and the support of the His Way community.
“There is no better way to fulfill the Great Commission than reaching the desperate in addiction and their families,” said Tom Reynolds, director of His Way Huntsville.
