Boy, 4, Dies After Being Exposed To Fentanyl At NYC Shelter

BROOKLYN, NY — A 4-year-old boy found unresponsive inside a Brooklyn homeless shelter on Tuesday has died from suspected fentanyl exposure, according to reports. Police responded to the Women in Need Inc. shelter in Flatbush around 8 a.m. and found the boy unresponsive and experiencing a medical episode. The 4-year-old was transported to Maimonides Hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead, police said. According to multiple media reports, EMS administrated Narcan to the boy before taking him to the hospital, and police recovered drugs from the scene. The mother and father of the boy allegedly ingested fentanyl before exposing him to the drug, AMNY reported. The city's medical examiner will determine the child's cause of death. The boy's identity has not been released. While the boy's parents were apparently taken into custody, police have not officially announced any arrests or charges. This is a developing story.
