John Lawrence Sullivan SS25 Fashions the Beauty of Taboo
John Lawrence Sullivan is known for its intricate mood boards. Where last season's "STACK" collection called on Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's architecture, Donald Judd's Stacks sculpture and Arne Jacobsen's Ant Chair, the label's Spring/Summer 2025 collection takes a less conventional approach to beauty. This season, designer Arashi Yanagawa is inspired by the taboo nature of rare creatures—the ones whose charm is deemed outlawed by society and thus remains hidden.Titled "Docking," the collection serves as a platform for unexpected allure by fashionably intertwining shapes that wouldn't normally belong together. The brand's signature tailored jacket is again the collection's hero. Here, the silhouette features the collars of a single-button jacket attached to a double-buttoned iteration at the shoulder, offering the illusion that there are two jackets layered on one another.Outerwear does not end there: the line also houses hybrid balmacaan-trench coats, single-double biker jackets, MA-1 and L-2B flight jackets and more. "The structure of aggregating details of multiple garments into one symbolizes this collectionʼs core theme of duality," the brand wrote in its collection notes.Down the line, the range houses docking-inspired formals, knitwear, casual tanks and relaxed tops. Bottoms, including jeans and leather trousers with two front zippers, cement the designer's penchant for duality, while sequins and lace decorate undergarments in Yanagawa's bid to spotlight the less exciting.See John Lawrence Sullivan's Spring/Summer 2025 collection in the gallery above.Click here to view full gallery at Hypebeast
