US Open: Grigor Dimitrov Keeps Fingers Crossed After Making Emotional Wish to Venus and Serena Williams

As the US Open looms large on the horizon, tennis players from around the world are fine-tuning their skills, hoping to make their mark on one of the biggest stages in the sport. For Bulgarian star Grigor Dimitrov, the dream of winning a Grand Slam is undoubtedly at the forefront of his mind. But as he steps onto the courts at Flushing Meadows, there’s another wish that lingers in his heart—a wish that might be just as important as lifting that coveted trophy.
The 2019 US Open semifinalist will be gearing up to rise up the ranks at the American hard courts. He will be facing Kyrian Jacquet in the first round of the tournament on Monday. But as he prepares to make a big leap, he desires to see his ‘besties’ Venus and Serena Williams on the US Open courts, supporting and cheering for him in the stands.
Speaking at a pre-tournament conference, the Bulgarian tennis star revealed his desire. “I think I should copy her on court little bit more,” he said about Serena Williams. Continuing further, he made a coveted wish. “They are amazing so…I still hope I see them in the New York, they are coming at some point so…” Dimitrov’s statements also reflect that the Williams sisters might join the tennis community at the final grand slam of the year. They have also appeared in Dimitrov’s matches in the past as well.

Serena Williams paid a visit at this year’s Miami Open semi-finals. The tennis great was spotted sitting in the audience and cheering for her friend as hard as any other fan from the stands and witnessed him cruising into the finals of the tournament. Similarly, Dimitrov has also reciprocated his love for the Williams sisters.
Remember, Venus and Serena were featured in the March 2022 issue of Harper’s Bazaar US. This made the former World No. 3 sing praises for them and express his pride. “Proud to see my besties on the latest cover of Harper’s Bazaar US,” he wrote in an Instagram post. The bond between Dimitrov and the Williams sisters extends far beyond the tennis courts.
When Grigor Dimitrov revealed speaking to Serena Williams on a ‘daily basis’
When Dimitrov defeated Alexander Zverev in the Miami Open semi-finals, the biggest supporter he witnessed was Serena Williams. She was animated after every lead that the Bulgarian star was making in the match, signifying her support for the player. Soon after the match, Dimitrov himself opened up about their friendship.
Speaking in an interview, he said, “She’s amazing. We stay in touch. We nearly speak on a daily basis.” Continuing further, he said, “Actually, I remember she was even here when I had my first top-10 win. It was a very nice moment. I think we both remember that. It’s friendship, man. I think this is the best part.”
As the US Open draws near yet again, it would be interesting to see if the Williams sisters actually make a visit during Dimitrov’s match in the US Open. Can the Bulgarian benefit from this friendly support? Only time will tell.
