Fisher-Price Recalls More Than 360,000 'Dumbbell' Toys Due To Choking Hazard

The dumbbell toy was sold with the Fisher-Price Baby Biceps Gift Set.Fact checked by Sarah ScottFact checked by Sarah ScottFisher-Price is issuing a voluntary recall on about 366,200 toys because they pose a choking hazard to infants.The August 29, 2024 recall is for a plastic dumbbell toy sold with the Fisher-Price Baby Biceps Gift Set, which comes with three other gym-themed baby toys.The dumbbell toy includes grey caps on the ends that can come off, creating a danger for babies, according to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). No injuries have been reported, but there have been seven reports of the grey caps coming off.

All About the Recalled 'Dumbbell' ToysThe model number for this gift set—GJD49—is located on the back of the kettlebell toy. The set was sold for about $18 at Walmart, Kohls, Fred Meyer, Hobby Lobby, Marshalls, TJMaxx, Buy Buy Baby, and Target stores across the country. It was also sold online at Amazon.com, Walmart.com, Zulily.com, Target.com, and other websites, from April 2020 through August 2024.The rest of the toys in the set, including the kettlebell with a teether handle, wearable headband, and pretend protein shake, are safe for little ones to continue playing with. The gift set is intended for babies 3 months and older. It's meant to promote fine motor skills, as well as to foster sensory skills and curiosity. What To Do if You Have the Recalled Fisher-Price ToyFamilies are encouraged to stop using the recalled dumbbell toy immediately. They should contact Fisher-Price to receive a refund. They can head to Mattel’s website for instructions on how to upload a photo of the toy to receive the money back."Once the consumer provides confirmation that the dumbbell toy will be disposed of as directed, the consumer will be paid $10 for the dumbbell toy only," says Fisher-Price. "Proof of purchase (receipt) is not required to receive a refund for the dumbbell."Those having issues with submitting their claim online can call the company at 855-853-6224 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. ET. This isn't the first time Fisher-Price has recalled a product. The company recalled its Rock 'n Play sleeper in 2019 and again in 2023, bringing important attention to the dangers of inclined sleeping."We remain committed to educating parents and caregivers on the safe use of all of our products, including the importance of following all warnings and instructions to ensure the health and safety of babies and children," shares Fisher-Price in its latest recall statement.
