Syracuse FC Defeats Kingston Stockade FC 2-1
By Syracuse FC
Kingston Stockade FC hosted Syracuse in a North Atlantic Conference matchup at Tenney Stadium on Saturday, May 25.
The Stockade opened up the scoring in the 19th minute after what appeared to be an even opening to the contest. A cross came from the right side and fell to a wide open Hugo Guerra at the edge of the 18-yard box, and he tucked it in the bottom corner.
Syracuse would tie things up at 1-1 in the 36th minute thanks to a goal from Owen Cheney. Jackson Card would be credited with the assist. Halftime would come with no change to the score.
Both teams picked up where they left off, playing to their strengths in the second half. But it wasn’t until the final three minutes of the contest that the tie was broken.
It all started with a foul just outside the box. Then Syracuse FC’s Riley Williams tucked a direct free kick just under the bar to give Syracuse the 2-1 lead and ultimately the victory.
This moves Syracuse to a 2-2-0 record in NPSL play, which happens to be the best record in the club’s recent history.
