2 Killed In Hit-And-Run Incidents In NYC Wednesday: NYPD
NEW YORK CITY— An 83-year-old woman and a 16-year-old were both killed in separate fatal hit-and-run collisions Wednesday, police said. The first incident happened at around 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Bond and Butler Street in Brooklyn, police said.The victim was walking on Bond Street when she was struck by a dump truck attempting to make a right turn after travelling west on Butler Street, police said. The woman was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said. This is the sixth time this year, a dump truck has killed a New Yorker, according to Transportation Alternatives. "This tragedy underscores the pressing need to design all of our streets with safety in mind, including features like physical curb extensions, clearly marked and raised crosswalk and universal day lighting, Brooklyn Community Board 6 said in a statement Four hours later, a delivery truck driver struck two girls in front of Woodside Intermediate School 125 on 47th Avenue in Sunnyside, Queens. The driver injured the 8-year-old girl and killed the 16-year-old girl. The 8-year-old girl was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
