Erica Wheeler to Join the Storm

Erica Wheeler has signed a deal to join the Seattle Storm, first reported by Players TV. Wheeler is fresh off of a two-year, $444,308 contract with the Indiana Fever – a deal that had her as the highest-paid player in the league at a point. Now, Wheeler is moving on to her next chapter with the Storm where she states her story will write itself.

The 10 year veteran has also had stops in Atlanta, New York and Los Angeles prior to her second stint in Indiana – and the Sparks served as the biggest stop of her career en route to scoring a big contract. After the 2020 Wubble, Wheeler started all 32 games for the Sparks in 2021, averaging a career high 13.6 points per game (PPG).
Wheeler, who started 136-of-136 games from 2019-2023 (she sat out the 2020 season), played a lesser role with the Fever in 2024 as the team toyed around with its rotation early on. Wheeler averaged 14 minutes per game in the second-year of her max contract playing off the bench behind rising star Caitlin Clark.
Wheeler, 33, is a great veteran for the Storm to acquire after a tumultuous 2024 campaign. The franchise has moved on from longtime veterans and champions Jewell Loyd and Mercedes Russell, while locking in Nneka Ogwumike and Gabby Williams for another year during free agency. With both Jordan Horston and Nika Mühl set to miss the 2025 season with respective ACL tears, Wheeler should be able to step in right away to play a bigger role. Wheeler’s arrival with Seattle is right on time as the team looks to bolster their bench, and to rise to the top of the contending ranks after an offseason of retooling.
